So, I have decided that it is time for me to give up my rated-R movies. It's been that one commandment that I've let myself get away with for a while, but something we talked about at institute changed my thinking a little bit. We were discussing the idea that people will often accept that they break one or two commandments, and just say "well, I'm not screwing up other things, so I'm doing okay" or "That's just my weakness". Our instructor asked us, "What are you afraid of?", "What's keeping you from giving wholeheartedly to the Lord?"
So I thought about it. What's keeping me from giving something up as trivial as some movies? I might say that it will be hard to get rid of some of the rated-R movies that I own, since some of them are my favorites (like Se7en, Love Actually, Crash, Memento, Fight Club, etc.). Yeah, that will be hard. But that can't be all of it, because that hasn't kept me from watching some newer movies recently (Lucky Number Slevin, Dane Cook's Vicious Circle, etc.). It will probably be hard not to see some of the movies that are coming out soon (Zodiac, Hannibal Rising, etc.).
So, all in all, I think it might be a little hard, but I can do it. I think once I just get rid of the movies I have, I won't miss them, and I have a pretty good group of friends who will help keep me from going to see the new movies. I'm not going to go if I don't have anyone to go with! Plus, it helps to really think about it the way it was put at institute. There's nothing to be afraid of that should keep me from giving these up, especially with all of the counsel we are given by church leaders about why these movies are bad. I know it's the best thing to do, and giving my best effort to following the commandments has to feel better than watching a good movie, right?

AYE!
To say nothing about whether anyone should or should not watch R-rated movies, I don't think it's a commandment, per se.
I went through this. I had to 'give up' some of my favorite movies when I made the decision to not watch certain films, and you know what? I don't miss them at all.
